Contents
Topic of the seminar are the experimental and instrumental break-throughs in particle physics for which a Noble Price has been awarded. A complete list of Noble Prices awarded for achievements in particle physics can be found here .

For the seminar we propose the following list of most recent topics (some theoretical topics less suited for a seminar talk have been omitted):

  • The theoretical discovery of a mechanism to describe the origin of mass and the discovery of the related fundamental particle (2013), UU
  • The discovery of the broken symmetry which predicts the existence of at least three families of quarks in nature (2008), UU
  • The discovery of asymptotic freedom in the theory of strong interaction and the running of the strong coupling constant (2004), JS
  • Discovery of the tau lepton (1995), UU
  • Invention and developement of the multiwire proportional chamber (1992), JS
  • Deep inelastic electron nucleon scattering and the importance for the development of the quark model (1990), JS
  • The neutrino beam method and the discovery of the muon neutrino (1988), UU
  • Discovery of W and Z bosons (1984, UU)
  • Discovery of violations of fundamental symmetry principles in the decay of neutral K-mesons (1980), UU
  • Discovery of a heavy elementary particle of a new kind (charm quark, 1976), JS
  • Discovery of a large number of resonances made possible through the development of the hydrogen bubble chamber (1968), JS
  • Electron scattering on atomic nuclei and structure of nuclei (1961), JS
